Champion This Snow Is Royal Euthanized

 

Pilot Point, TX—September 7, 2006—Champion and leading sire This Snow Is Royal was euthanized today according to a spokesman for JEH Stallion Station-Texas.

 

The 11-year old son of Chicks Beduino lost an aggressive battle to a severe and irreversible case of laminitis. He was attended by the medical staff at Weems and Stephens Equine Hospital, and Dr. Stephen O'Grady of Northern Virginia Equine.

 

American Quarter Horse Racing Champion Two-Year-Old of 1997, This Snow Is Royal won seven of 11 starts and earned $554,748. His biggest win came in the grade 1 Los Alamitos Million Futurity. He also qualified to the grade 1 All American Futurity and Rainbow Derby.

 

The current #10 AQHA Leading Sire of Money Earners for 2006, This Snow Is Royal sired 224 winners in five crops to race. From 368 starters, he sired 62 stakes horses and earners in excess of $6,847,040. His average earnings per starter was $18,606.

 

Among his top stakes horses were grade 1 winners SLM Snowman ($554,988), Snow Big Deal ($405,333), Morning Snow ($367,702) and This Snow Is Cold ($302,835).

 

He will be buried at JEH Stallion Station in Pilot Point.

CHAMPION AND LEADING SIRE THIS SNOW IS ROYAL DIES
 

September 7, 2006 – Champion This Snow Is Royal was euthanized on Thursday due to complications from laminitis. He was 11.
 

Bred by Abigail K. Kawananakoa of Honolulu, This Snow Is Royal raced from 1997-98, winning seven of 11 races and earning $554,748. His two stakes wins included the ’97 Los Alamitos Million Futurity (G1), and he was voted that season’s champion 2-year-old colt.
 

A son of Chicks Beduino and three-time champion Florentine, This Snow Is Royal is a full brother to 1995 Los Alamitos Million Futurity winner and one-time 440-yard world-record holder Evening Snow and stakes-winner Achievement. His half brother, the Ronas Ryon gelding Avison, won the 1994 and ’95 Vessels Maturity (G1).
 

To date, This Snow Is Royal has from five crops sired 368 starters, 28 stakes winners and the earners of more than $6.8 million. The stallion will be buried at JEH Stallion Station at Pilot Point, Texas.
