A
CLOSER LOOK: RED-HOT SIRE FISHERS DASH

What do Ed Burke Futurity finalists
Identity Theft, Fishers Tale, Finding Nemo and Fishing In Chivato
have in common? They were each sired by the outstanding stallion
Fishers Dash. Standing at Vessels Stallion Farm in Bonsall,
California, Fishers Dash entered stud in 1997 after a competitive
career on the major southwestern quarter horse circuit.
As a 2-year-old in 1995, Fishers Dash ran the
2nd fastest 440-yard time of any 2 year-old colt in the nation. He
finished second - by a neck to Champion Splash Bac in the Governor's
Cup Futurity and ran fourth - behind Winalota Cash, Champion Shake
The Bank and multiple Grade 1 winner Naturally A Winner - in the All
American Futurity G1. He also placed in the Governor's Cup Derby. He
retired with three wins from eight starts and earnings of
$123,495.
Fishers Dash is a son of all-time leading
stallion First Down Dash and out of Fishers Dash, a multiple stakes
winner of $210,860. As a stallion, Fishers Dash has already produced
two champions and more than 110 winners. His progeny, which includes
Ed Burke, Golden State and Los Alamitos Million winner Dashing Knud,
has earned around $5 million.
Fishers Dash’s progeny is headed by Dashing Knud,
the champion 2-year-old gelding in 2000. In addition to his wins in
the Los Alamitos Million, Golden State and Ed Burke, Dashing Knud
also won the Goetta Handicap and was second in the El Primero Del
Ano Derby and third in the Kindergarten Futurity.
Fishers Dash also sired Hardly Hateful, the
runner-up in the Los Alamitos Million Futurity and Rainbow Futurity
last year. She was named the champion 2-year-old filly in 2004. His
other top babies included Pivotal Decision, winner of the Dash For
Cash Futurity, Ronnie Jace, winner of the American Airlines
Challenge Championship, and Gulfstream Five, a three-time Grade 1
futurity finalist and runner-up in the Los Alamitos Winter Derby.
Fishers Dash now has an excellent chance to be
the winning sire of this year’s Ed Burke Futurity thanks to his boys
Identity Theft, Fishers Tale, Finding Nemo and Fishing In Chivato.
